NO VACANCY GALLERY PRESENTS: [22nd APRIL 2010]
SWITCHEROO
ARTWORKS BY NIOR
For the past 5 years local artist Nior has been creating artwork from his leafy hideaway in the hills of Melbourne. His fascination with the local fauna and his compulsion to make and draw things stretches back much further.
The animal inhabitants of Nior’s hand-crafted, wooden environments are endearingly familiar yet otherworldly critters. His unique style of artistic zoology sees each painting and scultpture adding to a visual encyclopedia of animals that make you wish they exist.
Nior’s artwork has featured alongside Melbourne’s finest contemporary artists. Since his highly successful first solo exhibition at No Vacancy he has received broad acclaim for his work as part of The Triforce Advance alongside other local favourites; Ghostpatrol and Acorn. He has exhibited widely in Melbourne and internationally and now presents his second solo collection at No Vacancy.

Hello everybody, i have posted some work of one of my all time favourite artists, Patrick Woodroffe. He is an old english fellow who has been painting some sublimely surreal and gobsmackingly, face-punchingly imaginative work since the early 70s. Technical execution and detail is to be revered. all hail lord woodroffe!

“Finally, after 2 months of (not so solid) work, Teramachi is finished! I have been really looking forward to finishing this one…even more so to moving onto something else (probably smaller, with less shrines, and very little detail). Hope you enjoy. I will upload some detail shots into the gallery too, so feel free to check them out. Cheers. Sean.”

The graffiti artist REVOK1 did a good job posting about the artist, dj and “that dude” on the Die Antwoord music video “Enter the ninja”, LEON BOTHA.
If you know none of them…go find out!

And he is also doing a photographic exhibition, in collaboration with Gordon Cark, called “Who Am I? Transgressions”.
Check his website for more.
Oh! And yes, Leon is also the longest know living survivor of Progeria, a condition that makes him look like’ he’s 80 years old when he’s actually 24.
Looks more like a “motivation” than a “condition” to me…after all is just a matter of perspective, so try a more positive and productive one!
Keep it up!!!
sorry about the music people, was an imbedded quicktime that was set to Autoplay. Its gone now.
Beastman (Brad Eastman) is an artist, designer and photographer based in Sydney, Australia. Using acrylic, ink and aerosol he produces intricately detailed artworks depicting a geometric, parallel world of scaly skinned, bold outlined, beast-like characters gripped by fear, anger, stress, jealousy, lust, confusion and paranoia. Years of skateboarding has strongly influenced Beastman's characters, concepts and unique style, developed over many years of drawing in sketchbooks and shooting photos. Heraldry, symmetry, patterns, geometry, family, friendship, nature, the ocean, violence, spirits and the afterlife are all themes which are becoming more and more evident in his artwork.
