Miso – Tchusse

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Miso – Tchusse
{Stanislava Pinchuk}

Opening Night: Thursday, 3rd December {6-9 pm}
Gorker Gallery – crnr Gore & Kerr Streets, Melbourne.

“‘Tchusse’ sees Miso re-create & condense her home city into a gallery.
Kharkov {Ukraine} becomes a floor to ceiling installation – portraits of
strangers in the street, of friends, folk stories and things otherwise
forgotten, turned into a city built from paper, material and decaying wood,
as Miso replicates buildings, street signs and notices, ladders, empty
bottles, criminal tattoos and clothesline and clothesline from memory.
In this way, Tchusse becomes an extension if Miso’s widely renowned
work as a street artist, as well as being her most ambitious installation &
gallery project yet.”

Miso will be doing an artists talk on the wine tasting evening – Wednesday,
16th of December, at 6 pm. ‘Tchusse’ will also be the launch of a
collaborative clothing project with Warren Harrison.

The exhibition will run until 20th December;
3-7 pm Wednesday-Friday // 11am – 7pm Saturday-Sunday.

The Earth grew dark, and it’s figures passed by me, like flitting shadows, and among them i beheld only… Badass Illustrations by Harry Clark.

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Harry Clarke (1889–1931) was a book illustrator during the “golden age” of book illustrations, heavily influences by Art Nouveau, Clark is an important contributing artist to the visual dialogue that contemporary artists such as Yoshitaka Amano continue to this day. Here are some illustrations for a 1928 publication of Poe’s “Tales of Mystery and Imagination”.

Julian Opie at SCAI Bath House in Tokyo

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I was lucky to catch the tail end of Julian Opie’s portrait exhibition at SCAI in Tokyo. The show featured a series of portraits, walk cycles, subtle animations and holographic prints reflecting a Rambranteque style of portraiture. The essence of which are lost in still photos but i tried my best to capture the animations, thank you Yuka for letting me go nuts with the g10 in the gallery.

Holographic portrait. the pose changes slightly from different angles. Nice effect.krlaunch-25-of-25

Senekt Expression

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I met Senekt at the KR x Levis launch last week, Tokyo based artist who fuses the Tokyo geometric street art stryle with his own brand of expressive abstract imagry. Check it out, it’s pretty dope.

A self taught artist, Ghostpatrol has moved from the field of stencil art to exhibit his drawing based creations worldwide. He currently resides in Melbourne at his ‘Mitten Fortress’ studio. His work ranges form fine ink drawing, street-art, commissioned murals and soft sculpture. Ghostpatrol creates worlds. His ongoing exploration of hybrid animals and forests travels across mediums; from pasted posters to soft sculpture, watercolours and printmaking. His work often references childhood nostalgia and pop culture, with often quite sinister and playful undertones. From beginnings in stencil and street art, his current practice focuses on ambitious installation and painting projects.
