On the 16th of October, Anonymous Gallery NY kicked off “Contain” a 4 day exhibition featuring four 20ft x 8ft shipping containers placed curb side out front of two major NY art institutions.
Four artists, Monica Canilao, Maya Hayuk, Greg LamarcheLister and created installations within each for the temporary street side exhibition organized by Anonymous in order to strengthen the dialogue between the institutions, the public, and the city, symbolizing the development of the four artists from street / public art backgrounds into the contemporary, in the process blurring the lines between street and contemporary art world.
The Contain public installations also served as promotions for the inaugural group show, opening tonight at Anonymous gallery, and featuring the four artists, where the ideas of Contain will be used to test how public art / street art translates within a gallery environment, as artist will explore the 6 definitions of the work “contain”.
A dope show, with an incredible group of artists. For more info check anonymousgallery.com.
