BCONE
In the past i’ve always put B-Boying in the boot next to the spare tyre on the cultural road trip, being put off by wak demonstrations at piss poor hip hop events. I mean its cool, but it’s never really registered as innovative for me.
THAT IS UNTIL… All this changed when i caught up with Mason, who along with a huge list of other achievements has, in the past 5 years become without contest the man of bboy documentation world wide with his Seven Shadows series.
What i realized, my assumption that B-Boys we all about the classic moves is the equivalent of thinking that graffiti is all about classic letter form, very wrong.
In truth, B-Boy’s today are pushing boundaries in ways you literally couldn’t imagine, defying the mechanics of the human body and expressing a style more akin to Mortal Combat than the classic breakers circle’s that sit in most our minds.
The 7 top breakers landed in Melbs today as part of the Red Bull BC ONE tour and will be holding demonstrations around Melbs.
Its worth heading down to at least one of these events. I’d recommend the espy show on Friday, cause i cant see how St Jeromes is going to work in that small space with the uneven floor and Boutique will be chock full of the very last of the metro’s bugging the DJ for sneaky sound system and stinking up the place with flouro t-shirts.
That said, I’ll probably be at all of them.
