In The Closet
Hidden within the mess of pouting face book party photos, shit shows and silly banalities of the embarrassing Melbourne Fashion Weak is something actually worth seeing.
Into The Closet, currently on show at above Carlton Hotel really deserves to be seen as a separate entity, featuring a rich gas light themed celebration of the finely developed skills and vision or Australian artisans stepping out of their comfort zones to design garments and working with new mediums.
Pattern maker Nita-Jan McMahon, End of Light, white and black. Hoodies made from hand knitted strips of t-shirts. Weighing a tonne and featuring a kangaroo leather and sterling silver label, you can see flickers of woven labels running through the piece.
Cobbler Drendan Dwyer and Rosslynd Piggot, “I have always liked hammocks” bike made out of chrome molly tubing, rangoon cane and braided satin rayo.
wtf, Howard Arkley / Cuggi ‘collabo’?
Actually made by Elizabeth Gower for Howardin 1977
Domonic Eichler, Sans Suces.
The show comes down tomorrow 7pm.
