Recently was wondering what happened to DontBelieveTheHypeBeast and did a search, turns out the blog is apparently still going in the form of satchelofgravel.com.
Since the sites first incarnation, street wear in general has reached a critical state of self recognized embarrassment, crapping itself in public and being more for plebs than ever before.
In fact even the most deluded tubby white boys secretly realizing how wak they look in micky based designs, rap lyrics, bubble shoes and flimsy Supreme caps, so you’d think that the blogs humor would loose its poignancy in the face of obviousness in the subject matter.
Think again, it’s still great. And whats more the above mentioned satirical drought has caused them to compliment the content by pointing the same wit on flicks and music, resulting in awesomeness.
And here i was thinking i was alone in my disdain for mediocre ‘acts’ like Cool Kids, Kayne, MIA and the host of other trendziod hip-hopsters who produce banal music of no value outside of giving uncultivated audiences a banner to huddle under; and bang, this comes along and i feel revived. Again, its a great blog.
Check it out. www.satchelofgravel.com
Just got back from mastering with the colour corrected final version of the video for “Innocent Shonen Boy” by SONPUB (A Bathing Ape Sounds/ Universal Japan).
The idea for the video was a bright, blue sky backdropped, slo mo video seemingly not shot in Japan. It all sort of came together in the end despite a bunch of logistical nightmares. (The main one being that the shoot was on one of the greyest, overcast days in memory!!)
Music wise the song is a bit of a poppier excursion for Sonpub (maybe its just the inclusion of the female vocal that pushes it over the edge) but check out his other bits and bobs at:
