The annual Fame festival stands as one of the most ideal arts festivals on the planet, solely curated and funded by Angelo Milano of Studio Cromie. The festival invited a dozen or so artists each summer to inhabit the Southern Italian city of Grottaglie. They hang out, work together, drink, eat and paint several of the walls around the city. The whole thing culminates in a group exhibition.
This years artists include. JR – france, ERICA IL CANE – italy, SAM3 – spain, NUNCA – brasil, BLU – italy, OS GEMEOS – brasil, SPACE INVADER – france, ESCIF – spain, 108 – italy, DALEK – usa, NICOLA TOFFOLINI – ita, MAYA HAYUK – usa, LUCY MCLAUCHLAN – uk, SWOON – usa, CYOP E KAF – italy, DAVID ELLIS – usa, VHILS – portugal, BEN WOLF – usa, WORD TO MOTHER – uk, MOMO – usa, BASTARDILLA – colombia.
But for this post i’m going to focus on the work produced by Os Gemeos and Blu. In particular this huge collaborative Mural that the three of them worked on during the festival.
Here is a timelapse of the work, accompanied by a spoon medoly recorded at one of the festivals final dinner parties. It’s pretty brutal.

Kings among men. Sign painters are a dying breed and this documentary will be an awesome insight into the processes and personalities. I’m psyched to see these guys paint. Especially Jeff Canham from New Bohemia Signs.
“The Sign Painter movie is currently in Production as of March 2010. This documentary is about sign painters in America. Those who were and still are walking the streets and using their talent to get a message across. You see their work daily on windows, sandwich-boards, boats, cars, billboards, in businesses, playgrounds, farmers markets and even theme parks to name a handful of spots.
Who are these people? Where did they learn their trade and is it a dying craft? Directors Faythe Levine & Sam Macon will bring you their story over the next few years”
After retrieving the gown of virtuosity from the kobolt caves, Rick Wakeman, level 10 bard, adventurer and hero of the Goblin wars treated the minions of Azeragoth to a night they’d never forget.

Check at around 4:38, he managed to give the camera a cheeky little wave with his middle and ring fingers half way through a melody.
He’s more god than man.
As I will be buying tickets to this. Anyone who wants to come over… get at me, but be quick.
Backwoods Gallery debuts with my third Melbourne solo exhibition, King for a day.
King for a Day is a brand new collection of paintings, screenprints and installations that examine society’s celebrity obsession through the prism of our own mortality and inner duality. An energetic depiction of those who crave power, wealth and fame in both life and death, King for a Day looks at how contemporary media and social networking has accelerated stardom and increased the pitfalls that come with celebrity attention.
Please join us for the opening reception of ‘King for a Day’ on Friday 25th June 2010, from 6-9pm.
