Thursday, February 5th, 2009

untitled_panorama1

12PCS GorKers first show of the year, kicking off another year of faithful service to the Melbourne art scene. Despite the heat wave the collection sucked them in from far and wide, fueled by 50 something slabs of Grolsh. Drunken shenanigans ensued.

EVENT ~ NO COMPLY SYDNEY ~ 20th MARCH

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

headerpage-for-sydney2

The date of the postponed No Comply Show has been announced, and it’s been announced right here. Will be launching on Friday the 20th of March.

Sorry about the wait everyone, but when faced with the incomplete venue, we had two choices, either push it back a few weeks and loose the momentum that the massive Melbourne show had or take a few extra months to update the show with new artists and give it a life of its own. We went with the later. It’s been allot of work, but it’s worth it and i think you’ll agree.

The shows going to launch at Red Bulls now complete gallery and true to the international dimension that No Comply has taken on, KR (Krink) will be heading down from NY to lay down some installations while Red Bull and Nice Produce are going to throw a massive party.

Based simply on the amount of Melbourne artists, collectors, aficionados and nice family who’ve confirmed that they’ll be making the trip to to Sydney to be a part of the occasion its looking like it’s going to to get out of hand.

And for you, here are all the details. For updates join the facebook group.

Dorian Concept & Daedelus live after The Laneway Festival

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

OP_Dorian_v4

Now and then musical genius’ come by, and we always seem to get our grubby hands on them…

Dorian Concept – Micro Korg Master..

Dorian’s influences range from the modal-jazz of Coltrane, the later experiments of ann-arbor Resident Dabrye to the soundscapes of Oval. Dorian Concept is a twirk-noodle king, his on-the-fly improvs and quirky-key work-outs are altogether astounding with scattered drums, piercing synth laced hooks and jaw dropping bass. A self-taught pianist and somewhat of a Youtube star (his online tweaks get over 200000 hits) Dorian aka Oliver Johsnon recently had releases on labels like Kindred Spirits, Treble-O and R2 and has gotten support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Benji B. He will rock out on the keyboard like no other during his show, the Austrian Scott Storch with more punch!

Daedelus – On a planet of his own..

Daedelus, the eccentric, electronic maestro of Ninja Tune is not your average cookie-cutter musician. One of LA’s most daring and prolific new artists, Daedelus chops and splices disparate acoustic sources into incredible works of contemporary resonance.

His trademark musicality contrasts IDM styled, left-field hip-hop cut-ups with samples from the 30s and 40s, the resulting style of honeyed melody and avant-electronics having no imitators. Daedelus’ reputation is long since established through collaborations with MF Doom, Madlib, Busdriver, Radioinactive, TTC, Mike Ladd and Taz from Sa-Ra, playing alongside Justice, DJ Assault and Two Live Crew and a guest appearance in Erykah Badu’s latest video.

The musician’s engaging live set brings much genuine dynamism to the sometimes static world of performed electronic/dance music.

Post Laneway Festival Musical Madness with support from Dave Pham, DJ Zaibatsu and JPS.

$10 entry for all NICE PRODUCE  subscribers, email me on kevin@stablemusic.com.au or it’s $10 with your Laneway Festival Pass-out.

LetterHeads 1 ~ WoodenShadow

Monday, December 29th, 2008

3120112270_e64e7b6814_o
Here’s an old set of photos from the first letterheads show organized by KidReksi and myself a few years ago at WoodenShadow.

3119252755_198d423a55_bI setup and ran WoodensShadow in an abandoned warehouse in downtown Richmond and it was the site of epic parties and also a tetanus ridden tinderbox that at any one night could of wiped out the entire Melbourne art scene in a fiery ball of death. Letterheads was an exhibition of remixed letters of the alphabet by Australian artists met with Chairman Mao and Flying Lotus thanks to RBMA.

Reka and I are currently trying to motivate each other into nutting out Letterheads 2 so i thought i’d post some shots, stir the creative juices and whatnot.
