You just know its going to be a sell out show when there is an inexplicably early crowd of olds, nothing but chinos and wallets as far as the eye can see.

My guess is the three people at the front of this picture are about 3 feet tall, talking about midgets later in the night while drunkenly stumblingly around the city we saw a midget dress as an Oompa Loompa, it flipped us the finger and then immediately vomit all over itself, we never laughed so hard. True story.

Part-time Melbornian Ex-pat from Brisbane Anthony Lister is having a show at the Metro 5 Gallery, opens this Thursday.

It may be on the wrong side of the river, but go along anyway and drink fancy wine.

Al Start – Text me

alstark_textme.jpg

I just got this email from Alstark about a show he’s putting on in what appears to be the Curtin House lift. The lift has a capacity of roughly 5 people, curious to find out how this is going to work, guessing an art ride up the rusty of elevator and drinks on the rooftop. Either way its Al so it’ll be dope

New art by the Beans

Monday, October 1st, 2007

32_780-1020.jpg

This awesome piece of work was just added to the site by Bonsai and Two (the beans). Last time i saw this piece, a pair of Belgium art buyers were cracking a major fat over it at the Beans studio, i guess they didn’t get there hands on it. To our good fortune, cause here it is.

Acrylic on wood, the wood has a wide backing frame behind it and features alternating elephant characters by the two artists, click on the image to get a closeup, the textures need to be appreciated properly.

Its the same design that the two painted outside of Until Never for Nail’s bandana show, and featured at the King Brown issue 3 launch at China Heights in Sydney.

Theo Jansens Fantabulous Contraption

If you dig the above clip, check the inventors talk at the TED talks here,

How nuts is this, not only does he look like Robert Duvall from the Godfather got cast as a wacky Belgium scientist but he’s also come up with the coolest use yet for use cable ties.

I struggle a little with his use of the word “life”, but really, this is off the hook. What blows me away the most, more than this incredible feat in engineering and more than the mesmerizing organic way that the creatures move is the fact that, if this guy found himself born in or transported one thousand years into the past, with-out too much effort he could re-create the whole project. And based on his progress i doubt the lack of modern technology would hamper him one bit.

And then we’re would be today? Some kind of science fantasy wind and steam driven super world, thats where.

Also, his “brain”, if it were developed with this application in mind before computers had been created would more than likely result in an Azimov style Positronic brain being around today, there may not even be computers, just a world of highly developed engineering customized to each applications, merged with fine artistry.

Just think, no more loading time….
