In The Closet

p1050493.JPG

Hidden within the mess of pouting face book party photos, shit shows and silly banalities of the embarrassing Melbourne Fashion Weak is something actually worth seeing.

Into The Closet, currently on show at above Carlton Hotel really deserves to be seen as a separate entity, featuring a rich gas light themed celebration of the finely developed skills and vision or Australian artisans stepping out of their comfort zones to design garments and working with new mediums.

Pattern maker Nita-Jan McMahon, End of Light, white and black. Hoodies made from hand knitted strips of t-shirts. Weighing a tonne and featuring a kangaroo leather and sterling silver label, you can see flickers of woven labels running through the piece.

SCRATCH IS BACK! AND HE’S LOOKING AT PUM PUM!

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Producer, prophet and man, whose uninhibited studio tinkering and comprehension of truth paved the road for electronic music, Lee “Scratch” Perry has teamed up with producer Andrew W.K for his new album Repentance which was released on the 19th and feature the almighty fatness of “Pum Pum”, dopest party track.

He might not be giving it up for Jah anymore, but this video sure as hell makes Jesus Christ look great.

DJ BAKU

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

DjBaku
Heard he is coming to OZ/NZ later this year so a bit of a heads up for those that might not be familiar with what he does.

DJ Baku (Bio lifted from Hearjapan.com)

“An ever prolific indie/alternative DJ and track-maker, DJ BAKU’s foundation is Hip Hop with a healthy dose of turntablism. His highly-acclaimed mix series released on his own label, DIS-DEFENSE DISC, has become something of a collector’s item. In June 2006, he released his long-awaited first album, “SPINHEDDZ” on POPGROUP Recordings, which reached No. 1 on the Tower Records Indie chart. Later in the same year, he performed with D-Style, Kid Koala and Q-Bert. In December that year, DJ BAKU joined forces with the legendary Guitar Wolf, releasing the single, “ULTRA CROSS Vol. 3”, on Sony Music. In 2007, BAKU embarked on a new project, assuming the alias, “Noizd Phank”, incorporating a variety of artists like Bug (ex Techno Animal) to do remixes.
Lastly, in 2008 will see the release of DJ BAKU’s second album, “Dharma Dance”. Along with his forte, sampling, BAKU has introduced the usage of guitar, bass, drums, and Chinese stringed instruments like the er hu, as well as a diverse range other natural/acoustic instruments in his new album”

Spin Headz is somewhat of a masterpiece:

and his second recently released album “Dharma Dance” is a lot rockier but has some fine tunes no doubt.

Fresh Meat Katie off the bone

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

My man Meat Katie smashed Brown Alley here in Melbourne last night. Thanks to you, I’ve got the worst hangover known to man, I’ve locked my girlfriend out of the house for 2 hours while I was passed out, I’m on my first meal in 24 hours, I’m also on my second bottle of red in as many minutes and things are looking up for a lazy Saturday night.

Meat Katie, thanks for a rocking show! Enjoy the T.

Sonpub Music Video

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Just got back from mastering with the colour corrected final version of the video for “Innocent Shonen Boy” by SONPUB (A Bathing Ape Sounds/ Universal Japan).

The idea for the video was a bright, blue sky backdropped, slo mo video seemingly not shot in Japan. It all sort of came together in the end despite a bunch of logistical nightmares. (The main one being that the shoot was on one of the greyest, overcast days in memory!!)

Music wise the song is a bit of a poppier excursion for Sonpub (maybe its just the inclusion of the female vocal that pushes it over the edge) but check out his other bits and bobs at:

NOT THE LATEST DANCE CRAZY ~ BY GHOST BEARD

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

 5d83a87f8a8cd3c743977f9262db113787672358_m.jpg

Been listening to this mad, bouncy dancehall mix by Dj Ghost Beard (Ninja Tunes North America, Jeff Waye). Very nice, especially DJ C  “This Is A Stage Show” remix, ft. Dave Kelly, Mims, Junior Reid, & Cham and catchy samples from “Rude Boy Pledge”, mad tune which totally knocks “Let it BIllie” from its pededstal of best party jams by C. It had a stependous run.

Found, of course, on Mashit.com. Track list here. Enjoy.
