Sydney reprezent…

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

First up, big shouts going to Toko in Surry Hills for a kick arse selection of fine sho-chu, sashimi, sushi and miso eggplant. Proper.

I’m up in Sydney taking some time out and getting to know the scene day by day. Met the crews on Burton St in Darlinghurst, much respect. Been to SP1 & 3 and picked up some 90’s, and in between cooling off in the hotel watching Australia destroy Sri-Lanka, I’m out snapping up the day life in the CBD.

Things have changed so much since I was up here last. I haven’t seen 1 syringe and the bums are really polite. Last time I hung around Oxford St, I would have been hit up for money, drugs, or threatened as part of daily life. Not anymore! I suppose with the lesser amount of poverty explains the ludicrous rise in alcohol prices. $20 cocktails is the norm, but oh so damn good.

Flicks of some proddy shops and sneaker freakers once I get home and develop these rolls of film. Analog photography is the new black, bitches.

Speak soon.

Pierre Proske

Anyone into sound design or modern art forms wont want to miss Pierre Proske performing at Geek Chic 2.0 this Wednesday night at Loop Bar. The event runs from 5pm till late and Pierre will be performing around 7pm. Free admission.

Pierre Proske is an electronic artist intrigued by the pervasiveness of technology in culture and science and its relationship to nature. His
work involves exposing the unspoken relationships we have with technology and harnessing machines into exploring new aesthetics. He has spent the larger part of the last 4 years in Sweden where he performed, exhibited and obtained a Master of Science in Art and Technology. An experimental electronic music performance using EMG amplifiers that harnesses the electricity produced through muscle contractions in my arms (EMG) to create sound, which is then processed using a patch created with the Pure Data software.(Similar to MAX, MSP on Apple Computers)

LANEWAY FESTIVAL ART UNVIELED

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Jagi and I have wrapped up the artwork for this years nation wide lane way festival. Featuring some of the lovable drifters and hangers from Melbourne’s original lane way, haunt and bar St Jeromes.

Paying tribute to Jimbo, and filling the composition with as much wierd shit as we could come up with, here it is. click the image to zoom in.final-a2-poster.jpg

Some of the peeps who feature…

The man himself with both hands on the wheel, the party pope, St Jeromes.
Note the cherub hood ornaments excitement.
dannyandsparks.jpg
Regulars to St Jeromes would know the drunken electrician Mr Johny sparks who has spent the better part of a year fitting the same globe and pretty much slacking off as much as the kids who frequent the place. Danny Rogers, the brains behind the festival wears a wrestling mask. Note. Allot of the ideas for this poster we’re formulated while drunk.

Jagi and I get a gerns as the fish riding Samuri and Ninja.

Censorship! Below is the original version of the hippo, as you can see the reason he’s so happy (he looks like his going to cry tears of joy) is that he’s hanging with two ladies who have mad knockers.

However for the final version the guys wanted us to tone down the titties. We were like “What are you gay?”. But they pointed out that it could be offensive to the ladies in the audience, and proably rightly so, so we toned it down and presto, Job Done.

Meggs Show.

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

meggs-ateregotism-2.jpg

Meggs is finally breaking out with his first solo show this month, having seen a few of the pieces in the studio l must say it’s looking dope.

Meggs was around when the whole stencil ‘thing’ went down in Melbourne a few years back. Since then he’s broken out with his freehand creatures, lurking in the shadows around the city.

Meggs installation at the Backwoods show.

I would describe Meggs new work as a fusion of his stencil work, freehand style and design all mixed into one.  Show kicks off on Friday the 23rd in Collingwood, the worlds most livable suburb.
