In The Closet

Friday, September 5th, 2008

p1050493.JPG

Hidden within the mess of pouting face book party photos, shit shows and silly banalities of the embarrassing Melbourne Fashion Weak is something actually worth seeing.

Into The Closet, currently on show at above Carlton Hotel really deserves to be seen as a separate entity, featuring a rich gas light themed celebration of the finely developed skills and vision or Australian artisans stepping out of their comfort zones to design garments and working with new mediums.

Pattern maker Nita-Jan McMahon, End of Light, white and black. Hoodies made from hand knitted strips of t-shirts. Weighing a tonne and featuring a kangaroo leather and sterling silver label, you can see flickers of woven labels running through the piece.

Can you believe it’s been 3 years already?

From a little idea to a big world, thanks to everyone past and present who have been involved in the “Nice way of life”.
Shouts to our immediate families and crews who keep us strong.
Shouts to our loyal supporters and customers who got taste.
Shouts to Melbourne city…

… and never forgetting the most important shout of all — to the artists and contributors, we’ve seen you grow in leaps and bounds. From the suburbs to the globe, don’t stop. The world is yours for the taking!

We’ve got plans as long as our rubber arms, Nice V2 is coming close, our range is expanding and the world is taking notice. There couldn’t be a better time to be feeling Nice.

Sahtel meets Mash

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

“The new 7th issue of Sahtel magazine featured an exclusive interview with MASH members Garret Chow and Jonathan Burkett. Hereby we’re publishing the original english version of the text along with some of the photos over our website. The interview is made by Lily Lin. Enjoy.”

The MASH crew definitely have a lot to answer for. On my last trip to Tokyo, the cities infamous BNE smothering was pretty much over taken by MASH paraphernalia. When I dropped in to WBASE, I was met with a lot of young Tokyo hipsters and gaijins riding some seriously hot customs. I’ve posted the shots up elsewhere on this blog, but the fixie epedemic is definitely in full force with the MASH massive on the fore front.

A great read and some insight into the MASH lifestyle, not to mention lots of excellent photography. All these shots of people in the summer time is getting me anxious.

Enjoy the article.

SCRATCH IS BACK! AND HE’S LOOKING AT PUM PUM!

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Producer, prophet and man, whose uninhibited studio tinkering and comprehension of truth paved the road for electronic music, Lee “Scratch” Perry has teamed up with producer Andrew W.K for his new album Repentance which was released on the 19th and feature the almighty fatness of “Pum Pum”, dopest party track.

He might not be giving it up for Jah anymore, but this video sure as hell makes Jesus Christ look great.

A very Heavy Phone

Monday, September 1st, 2008

miss you mobile I found this odd piece of installation art near grilled burger on Brunswick street and thought you all might get a kick out of it. A solid cement mobile phone with the message ‘I miss You’. It can only mean 2 things, this phone model is so old that it finally turned to stone or there is man made from cement who’s lost his mobile.
