THE PIECE PROCESS ~ ANONYMOUS GALLERY

December 23rd, 2008 by Koan

warhol-1-anonymousCurrently showing at Anonymous Gallery NY, the Piece Process transposes 3 generations of New York artists, pairing each with their contemporary counterpart with the aim of creating an overview of the interconnectedness of styles and development over generations, as well as the general impact that these prolific and influential artists have had on popular culture and the urban environment.

And presenting artwork from the likes of Warhol, Kieth Harring and Jean-Michael Basquiat along side modern contemporaries such Greg Lamache and Todd James it promises to fulfill its goals.

Up until 24th Jan.

Here’s some shots, thanks to anonymous curator Jo.

Coming up for air.

December 22nd, 2008 by Karl

What’s up Nice people. It’s Karl, checking in from my new home in Scandinavia, where we keep the beer outside and frozen.

I haven’t been so busy on the Grassroots side of things for a while as I’ve just moved to Stockholm. I’ve been here for 4 weeks and have spent every second getting acquainted with my new work peeps and getting out to meet the city. I love Stockholm.

The fashion here is second only to Tokyo. It’s a 1930’s Hugo Boss / Louis Vuitton catalog. Stockholm also just got rated the world’s most sexiest city, so double that up with some precision fashion choices and bang. See, a little self love goes a long way, it’s always worth the effort. 🙂

The street art here is minimal, though there are plenty of galleries and talented artists. I visited the University Artist Market and was blown away by the creativity. I guess spending 3/4 of your life indoors and in the dark can work wonders with your imagination.

I’m off to Germany next week, I’ll be on the hunt for some serious works. Flicks and more updates to come now that I’m a little more settled. If you’re ever up this way, give me a hollar, we’ll go drinking.

As for Nice 2.0, well, let’s say that all of our designers have let us down. We’re working on it, if you want the job done right, you have to do it yourself. It’s the Nice way of life.

Peace from the North.

Rolling with the guys at Batman’s alley

December 19th, 2008 by Miss G

On the previous visit to SP my good friend and awesome artist Prakrti, did a great job by repainting an old work by him and Enivo, that was ‘attacked’ by one of these crazy pixações that I just don´t get, ‘pixação versus graffiti’ is a non-sense act on MY book, I got to talk with people envolved in some of those pixações and I get their view, don´t agree with it and there´s pretty much nothing we can do about it, I feel sad for works like these but they can still do a new one but works like from NIGGAZ, who´s not ‘here’ anymore, or from Os Gemeos, an old one with a style they don´t do anymore made me cry when I saw…anyways, I had the pleasure to watch the guys in action plus a lot of works in these alley, called the Batman’s alley, don´t ask me why, very well known for its legendary graffitis, and you all too now !

Niggaz’ work…makes me feel so sad to see it now.

Jerry’s new work right beside it.

The words ‘love’ and ‘patience’ writen on the ‘portal’.

…that´s what it takes to be out there.

The great wall by “Ninguém Dorme” ( means “nobody sleeps”)  next to Prakrti and Enivo’s wall.

And on the left side, one of my favorite works from Niggaz.

The Chã Project was there too.

Prakrti and Enivo’s previous work…damaged.

Ready for a new one…

…and here it comes!

Even the Nice Produce showed its face on it and got a piece of the action !!!

Keep rolling !

VILLIAN TOY SHOW ~ NO VACANCY

December 17th, 2008 by Koan

Highlights from the massive and Villain Toy Show currently on display at No Vacancy Melbourne. The show stars a series of customs based on a new figure designed and produced by Melbourne artist Claudio Mantuano, amongst the usual collection of Qee’s, Trexi’s and all other crap that people customize for these shows. The sheer creativity and craftmanship of this show sets it apart.

Claudio’s work seen here in mighty bronze.

System Error ~ Claire Tennant.
