DANTE HOROIWA

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Nice is making moves to bring Brazilian artists Yusk and Horoiwa, along with Miss G to Australia for 6 months to take part in and contribute to the Melbourne art scene.

Details are still shakey at this point, but until more is locked in, enjoy some of this stunning work by Sao Paulo artist Horoiwa.

At the age of fifteen the young Dante Horoiwa began his career as a commercial illustrator.

Being from a city with such a strong and unique graffiti movement as Sao Paulo, it wasn’t long before Horoiwa, under the name Musta, started becoming actively involved in street art.

The rawness and innovation of the Brazilian street art scene has since become one of the main influences on his work, both on and off the streets.
His other main influence comes from the culture, philosophy, history and art of his Japanese ancestry.

Drawing from his heritage, Horoiwa tries to follow the samurai philosophy and the pursuit of enlightenment. The difficulty and loneliness of which, given the state of the modern world, is a predominant theme in his artwork.

Cekis and Grim in Brazil !

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Gladly our country is known for having the most incredible graffitis around the world, and thanks for that most of the best artists of the streets come down here to be part of that and contribute to our open air gallery!

Among the kings of the graffiti art there´s two artists from Chile, not really sure if they´re both were born there, but still they represent another country with some of these amazing talents and graffitis on the streets, I´m talking about the masters GRIM and CEKIS.

Who recently visited our blessed country and chaotic city, Brazil – Sao Paulo. And, luckly for us, painted on one of the best ‘street galleries’, which is the neighborhood where  OsGemeos live, called Cambuci.

Always pays off to go there !

DJ MAKO

Friday, February 20th, 2009

I´ve been working on the 400ml mag, so I haven´t had much time to take care of other things…but I´ve been missing here so much…so I´ll give you a little preview of what I´ve been doing lately.

I recently went to meet my good old friend who turned into one of the best hip hop Djs that we have here in Brazil right now, producing with the best Mcs around and kicking ass on the beats.

So I went to check his performance at the  club Studio SP, that has arts all over the place, very cool stencil, stickers and graffiti artists decorated it and turned into a gallery night club, that always have awesome performances, like Dj Mako himself, and others.

12PCS GorKers first show of the year, kicking off another year of faithful service to the Melbourne art scene. Despite the heat wave the collection sucked them in from far and wide, fueled by 50 something slabs of Grolsh. Drunken shenanigans ensued.

No comply at 400ml Magazine !

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

I just got into a new project with a really great guy from Rio, Thiago, who invited me to do a piece on the No Comply show for the first edition of his digital magazine, about the street art and culture, and now I´m officially part of this cool project which is the 400ml magazine !

The first edition was made under the name “Graff Rio”,because of the guys envolved in the project in the first place were all from Rio de Janeiro, but since me and other people from other parts of Brazil got on board and collaborate with it, the name has been changed so that people know that what we´re doing is for everyone who likes or does street art and support the street culture.

DOWNLOAD 400ml #1.

The first edition came out with interviews with real talented guys, such as the stencil artist Venom, graffiti artist from Rio Davi, stencil and sticker artists Drao from South Brazil; articles about the biggest events that went on Rio last year like the Hutuz Rap Festival and award, which awarded the greatest talents on Brazilian Rap Music, also competitions of Streetball, Skate and Graffiti, the artists nominated were Insane, Nick and Vespa from cvcrew, the winner, chosen by the public vote; and the Meeting Of Favela, which gathered most of the brazilian graffiti artists on Rio to do a big production painting the ‘favelas’ there, and some dope photos on the Gallery section :

So here´s some shots of the pages about the No Comply show :

The second edition is out and we´re keeping the freshness on !

An interview with the graffiti artists SWK, Insane, the stencil artist Ozi, na article about the documentary about the ‘pixação’ on Rio called ” Let the world see” , plus other talents on the Gallery. Check it out !

OSGEMEOS…remember ???

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Do you guys remeber that post I did about a huge wall painted by OsGemeos, Nina, Hebert Baglione and Nunca that was painted over in gray paint by the company hired by our city mayor to ‘clean’ out the graffitis, by “accident”, they say… ???

If not, let me help to refresh your memory, the post was  “OsGemeos” …who???

So, the mayor and the S.P.’s prefecture tried to get redemption by ‘letting they paint it all over again’…and I went there to follow the process, and got to talk with most of the artists envolved in the project about it, and to shoot some nice photos of it, since I finally got a camera, so check it out !
